U-716 (Thimme) began return transit due to attack periscope failure. Boat was rammed by a destroyer while attacking a large inbound freighter on 5 April in AC 8580. Attack periscope bent, otherwise no damage. U-711 reports after returning in Summary Report: 22 March in the morning T V on armed fishing trawler close under Mal Olenij. After 6 minutes 45 seconds observed hit on stern. Forced to submerged by Catalina. Sinking was accepted. |

U-1163 (Balbuhn) received orders at 22.48 hours to pursue at highest speed 3 enemy units in AN 3128, course south, 18 knots. (Previously boat was under escort from Stavanger to Kristiansand). Two enemy units (about destroyer sized) located 02.00 hours in AN 3164 lower-right, lying stopped. No reports thus far from the boat concerning enemy contact. Boat received orders to break off search this morning at 05.00 hours because the enemy is no longer detected. |
