	To:  HMS. DUNCAN                                                             FROM:  "NORTHERN GEM"
	At 0730Z. 29th April 1943, S.S. "McKEESPORT", No. 42 in Convoy ONS 5 was torpedoed.
	NORTHERN GEM detailed as rescue ship, picked up A/S contact 1500 yds., made an attack with 3 depth charges, but no results.  Then proceeded and picked up survivors from torpedoed ship.  The whole crew, excepting one man were saved, numbering 10 all told, with 2 superficial wounds.
	I would suggest as being a rescue ship, that a doctor should be carried on board to deal with wounded if occurrence should arise.
