Note:  The positions in the table above and in the Google Earth patrol summary are derived from the KTB and in many cases do not match those set forth in authoritative references such as Jürgen Rohwer, Axis Submarine Successes of World War Two or the Uboat.net website.  The goal here is to present the picture relative to the U-boat and not the absolute position that the ship was attacked or sank.

10.46   Stopped, signal traffic.  3-meter inflatable boat launched.  Line shot over with line pistol.  U-609 was on the starboard side in the lee, distance 50-75 meters.  Doctor into the boat.  Rubber boat was hauled to U-609 by the line.  Back and forth traffic, Funkmaat for radio message material exchange on board, Matrosen Kiel [of U-609] was packed in a hammock and placed in the inflatable boat.  U-609's forecastle was flooded down, the boat launched easily.  All men at diving stations.  Coning tower hatch ready to slam shut, aftership flooded down.  Rubber boat was pulled over by the line, Matrosen Blass [of U-462] in bathing suit and life vest is ready aft to accept the boat.  Hauled in from the coning tower on a line until the dinghy was between [the aft net deflector] antennas. Because the second line, which was on U-609, was not slacked in time, the dinghy hit athwartship. Blass was now swimming, sometimes holding on to the net deflector by his toes, to get the boat straight. He succeeded in doing it through his useful, determined action. [U-462] was blown, the patient (severe cell tissue and muscle dilatation of the right leg, starting from a pus knee joint, with incipient blood poisoning) was brought into the boat in the hammock with artillery belts on the provisions davit. Rudloff asked for a stoker and a seaman, since Masch.Gefr. v.d. Fech was also subsequently taken over because of an infection  of the middle ear and mastoid process. A stoker, Mat. II Heidschötter was given over. On the last commute return, the boat was full of water and the foot pump with hose (to inflate the boat), medical instruments in a canvas sack, a life jacket and the clothes of Masch.Gefr. v.d. Fech went overboard. Everything was fished out with the boat except for the foot pump with a hose and the medical instruments, which went to the bottom due to the weight. A 50-meter manila line remained on U-609.

U-558 comes up on the starboard side.  Workshop Mate and Doctor swam on board.  The Ob.Sturm. from U-558, who had the wishes of the boat with him, swam over (safety measures, the life jackets and lines were observed).  Oil transfer went well against the seas.  Boat lies well and holds course.  It is observed that the tanker drifts faster than the boat taking over oil.  The boat has to keep up accordingly. The faster drift of the tanker resulted in a side staggering, which had a good effect in the long swell.
To transfer provisions after the hose line was taken in (propellers free to maneuver) flooded down forward and the large inflatable boat was launched.  Boat lay athwart the wind, it was flooded until the forecastle was just in the water.  The inflatable boat was launched easily.
Boat was only blown a bit, this made loading easier.  U-558 came up in the lee.  Line connection by line pistol.  I move a bit ahead and put him in the lee.  The diesels were used to maneuver, E-motors are inadequate for such maneuvers.  Flooded down to recover the inflatable boat.

Neptune was kind to us once again.  Little wind, calm seas, little swell.  Tow connection was established easily.  Boats want a special tow line (Kaptlt v. Schmidt). The various outfitting of the boats with refueling gear makes maneuvers difficult. A more detailed explanation of the refueling gear is required first. Provisions were manned into the rubber dinghy during the refueling, the course was chosen so that the boat [U-462] was about 4 Strich [45°] upwind,

with the forecastle making a little lee.  Inflatable boat was fully loaded twice and launched aft.  Ites steered in my wake and so took the inflatable boat.  Refueling and provisions transfer was carried out at the same time.  The hose line was not heaved in using the capstan but instead hauled in [by hand], the latter goes much faster and better in good weather.

12.24   Hose connection established with U-373.
Hose line is 3 meters short, apparently the tow pennant is too long.  Otherwise it is unexplainable.  2 hose lengths led astern with the small inflatable boat.
In the meantime the inflatable boat launched at 10.00 hours was loaded with provisions.
In order to prevent the water that was flowing over the pressure hull under the upper deck from running into the inflatable boat, the watertight forecastle was opened and re-flooded.  After flooding both were closed.  The boat lay calmer flooded down, the loading went quicker and it avoided the water running into the inflatable boat.  U-596, which lay near, came abeam in the lee.  Connection was established by line pistol. After taking over the inflatable boat [U-462 releaased the boat and line connection], I let myself settle back [for U-596] to unload. After unloading, he maneuvered ahead and let the inflatable boar drift, which was headed for by me and taken over.  Connection with the inflatable boat was established by swimmer.  In order not to put too much strain on the inflatable boat, and in accordance with the swell, provisions for 14 days were brought over in two trips.  The delivery of provisions went smoothly and ended for U-596 at 03.20 hours
Next U-775 was supplied with provisions.  Provisions for 8 days were delivered in one trip.  Procedure as for U-596.  Ended at 17.38 hours.
18.29   Towing connection with U-373 detached.  Small inflatable boat with Workshop Mate released by U-373, was steered for U-755 and taken over.
    18.43 - 20.15   Provisions delivered to U-373 (1 boat).
When sending the inflatable boat was swamped.  Wanted to continue supplying U-373 in the gathering moonshine but Loeser rejected the proposal.
19.00   Hose line extended for Göing.
20.13   Towing connection established, hose line however was not ready (Suggested waiting for the moon to rise).  Couldn't be prepared because of the intense darkness.
Towing pennant detached on its own.

04.00   Deploying the hose line is pointless.  Boat can no longer be held on course at KF.  Eventually provisions delivery by canister was given up.  Swell is too high. The boat was already endangered by collision.
05.30 - 08.30 The hose line could not be stowed in its box because of the breakers coming over.  The box covers, which when opened, cannot be fastened, opened and closed and made work on the upper deck difficult. With the entire crew, with 3 hours of tough wrestling the hose line was drawn up at the conning tower.  During the recovery of the hose line, 4 men fell overboard, but as they were attached by artillery belts, they were soon recovered.  But it did not come off completely without injury, so apart from small wounds, bruises and sprains, seriously injured were First Watch Officer Oblt.z.S. Wolf, Matr.Gefr. Schaer, Matr.Gefr. Böhm and Matr. VII Wiegand.
06.00   Radio Message - Sent - Supply broken off due to weather conditions, request give new square.  SE 6-7, Sea 6, high Swell, +21°C, 1011 falling.

      1010 mb, SE 7-8, Sea 6-7, +20°C, high Swell
08.42   Radio Message - Await better weather at supply place.  Probably only continuous bad weather zone.
10.07   Pretorius in sight.  So far all boats steered SW courses and could only be seen from time to time on the wave crests.  The barometer fell strongly, 12.00 hours to 1005 mb, 16.00 hours 1000 mb, 18.00 hours 999 mb,  The wind shifted between SE-SSE-SE and increased steadily.  In squalls it reached a strength of from 10-11.  In order to get out of the center, I turned with great speed through the wind and came to an easterly course, 20-30° to the wind.  The boat lay very well and only took water on the bridge when it was not on the ordered course.  Because the stern was continually overspilled from the breakers could not proceed with one diesel KF as intended because of the low exhaust gas pressure. So rode out the bad weather with 1 E-motor LF.  The boat lay well at this speed.
With turning to the easterly course the 5 boats passed out of sight.  By breaking down the hose line around the conning tower and stowing the remaining provisions for Loeser (which were already on the overdeck) in the tower substructure, we were ready to dive only in an emergency.  The provisions would have been ruined by pressure, the hose line, which was well lashed down, could possibly have broken loose. At least they could have damaged the bridge railing. The sea characteristics of the boat were good.
About 16.00 hours the wind turned to the south (8-9), at 20.00 hours to SSW (8), at 24.00 hours to SW (6-8),  The barometer rose to 1008 mb.

15.30   Large inflatable boat launched by flooding down.
16.28   Towing connection established with Wiebe.
Proceeded in starboard echelon, so the hose line lay over the forecastle.  Hose line was thus very stressed.  With the SW wind allegedly the course of 250° could not be maintained.  At the same time to give provisions, I must make a lee for the inflatable boat.  Additionally the boat lay calmer 2 Strich [22.5°] from the wind and could hold course better.  With this Wiebe came in port echelon I turned the boat to starboard and thus presented the port echelon  No seamanship support from the boat.
17.14   Towing pennant broken, was manufactured independently.  Hose line torn.  That was anticipated, up to now no boat has managed.  Both back AK, from obstinate behavior from over there.  Only after repeated requests were hoses released and towing connection detached.
17.46   Hose line was recovered over the forecastle for repairs.
    18.04 - 18.48   Provisions delivery.
After unloading the inflatable boat was cast off by Wiebe [the line was still attached to Wiebe] but not approached [by U-462].  So when it got dark I had to approach his stern (distance 20-50 meters) to see the inflatable boat.
