Note: The positions in the table above and in the Google Earth patrol summary are derived from the KTB and in many cases do not match those set forth in authoritative references such as Jürgen Rohwer, Axis Submarine Successes of World War Two or the Uboat.net website. The goal here is to present the picture relative to the U-boat and not the absolute position that the ship was attacked or sank. |

16.44 | DL 9910 | The vessel of about 1000 GRT, suddenly turned to target angle 90°, range 2500 meters. I hoped that he would turn back again, because the range was too great and I only have Atos at my disposal forward. The enemy has obviously reduced speed significantly. Only shifts a bit and always holds at target angle 70 to 90°. So he makes a quarter circle around us. With the flat water frequent extension and retraction of the periscope is necessary, which causes particularly loud noise.

Comments of the Befehlshabers der Unterseeboote |
on the Kriegstagebuch of "U 504" from 1.4.42 to 7.7.42. |
In comparison to the encountered independent traffic, the success could have been greater with a little more luck and fewer misses. The behavior on 20 May was clumsy. When a shadow is sighted it is necessary to maintain contact until the course of the enemy can be determined.
