				Tanker is very suspicious, because
				1.)  very small dirty Panama flag,
				2.)  missing the ship's name,
				3.)  tanker is not noted in the Handbook of Merchant Fleets.
				4.)  everything unscrupulous drives under this shoddy flag.

				Decision:  Continue to observe the steamer.  Tanker had set lights again.

				Today English tanker disguised by Panama flag sighted in naval square FC 7655, course 145°.  At the same time unrecognized freighter on opposite course.  Yesterday illuminated steamer naval square FB 6965, course SE.  Question sinking tanker outside security zone.    U-66.

				For tankers no special provisions apply.  Outside the security zone, sink if justified in the Standing War Orders.    B.d.U.
				Two hours after sunrise the tanker made a zigzag of about 60° to port, ran on this course for about one hour, then went to 125°, while he previously steered 143°.
				Decision:  Sink the steamer outside the security zone, if he continues to be suspicious, and because he has a cargo of oil, so "absolutely banned goods".  Additionally he steers for an English harbor, Capetown.

		21.56		First reached a position ahead, too late for a submerged attack.  Because it is still too bright, surface attack is still not possible.
				Decision:  Submerged attack by the air search periscope.
				Visibility range by air search periscope about 200 meters.  If the steamer is now dimmed, then there is no possibility of submerged attack.
		23.00		Tanker comes in sight again with set lights, target angle 15°.  Target angle is easily estimated by the steamer lights, however range is impossible to distinguish.  For safety, prepared for stern attack if the range is too low
				At times the boat can only be held at periscope depth with HF.
		23.10	FK 5683	Double shot, target angle 90°, range estimated at  1000 meters, just in case set 1500 meters, if the range is still greater, and shot with shooting angle 180°.
				After 66 seconds (1080 meters) two normal torpedo detonations, one weak explosion column observed.  To avoid being seen at night ran off about 1000 meters, then surfaced.  Tanker still lies stopped, however sets no lifeboats out.  Moved off a bit more, because is very bright now and the moon has risen.
				After 10-15 minutes the steamer gets underway with set lights on the old course, obviously wanted to show neutrality.

		26.09.41		However, the tanker had to look at the first two shots as warning shots, so it was quite ready to knock off.
				Apparently only oil tanks hit, without the oil igniting.  Steamer proceeds at about 2-3 knots lower speed.

				First hit center with subsequent explosion, second hit aft 40 meters.  Tanker breaks in the middle and burns.
				Crew goes into the lifeboats.  Steamer constantly turns in circles to port because the rudder is obviously hard over.  Tanker settled lower and lower in the middle, stern and bow were always steeper, but still doesn't sink.
		05.30		Coup de grâce from about 1500 meters, because the lifeboats are still in the vicinity.  Shot goes past the continually turning steamer.
				Remained in the vicinity, to observe the sinking.

				Crash dive.  Visibility range through the periscope at most 1000 meters due to the high swell.  Sound bearings received however initially nothing heard. Headed for the destroyer to improve the sound bearing.  After 10 minutes the sound bearing quickly grew louder.  Destroyer makes 370 RPM, so runs about 24 knots.
				20 minutes after the sighting, the destroyer was abeam in 4000-5000 meters.  Continuously showed the stern.
