27.09.44 On 22 September AE 4756 torpedoed an arriving 6000 GRT freighter.  Escorted by corvettes and aircraft.  23 September AE 4783 small convoy.  3 steamers, 4 escorts, hit on 3000 tonner.  Afterwards heavy detonation.  Assume ammunition steamer sunk.  After first shot rammed by patrol vessel. Periscope bent. During depth charge pursuit by 3-4 patrol vessels with Asdic remained at depth 20 meters, was not detected.  Position AE 7672.  Return transit.  (naval squares).

  Reykjavik.  1.)  Traffic:  Good success possibilities against convoys and independents.  Monthly 3 inbound and outbound convoys between Iceland and England with 10 steamers with about 3 escorts, about 8 knots.  Partial convoys to and from America-England traffic up to 3 in each direction.  Assembly place for Russia traffic.  
  2.)  Defenses:  Relatively light sea and air surveillance.  On several occasions locating in the centimeter range.  Harbor entrance monitored.  Hvalfjord is an anchorage for warships.

  3.)  Purkhold reports:  Naval square AE 4783 independents, 4753 small convoy 7 steamers, both inbound, only escorted by patrol vessels.  4761 and 4735 fixed patrol, in between suspect barrier, otherwise no surveillance.  Heavy air, however only takeoff and landing traffic.  Active fishery.  Southwest coast lighthouses as in peacetime, otherwise extinguished.  4750 and 4790 promise success.  Up to now have remained unnoticed.  Boat has no snorkel.
