17.11 Groups Grimm and Zorn:  1) After the PQ convoy probably went around unnoticed to the north a lack of information, new prerequisites for combating the return convoy are ideal, especially a high number of boats.  2)  Intention:  Detecting the departure by aircraft and U-Schweiger, again through Grimm Group. This attacks, report and maintain contact.  There after approach group Zorn for together day and night attack. (cont.)

17.24 In groups, far-offset maneuver ahead for a new approach. Combat according to the situation up to around 70°N.
  3)  Behavior in accordance with Nordmeer Order No. 8.  Increasing darkness  makes possible Aphrodite use again. Bearing signals from aircraft contact keepers will be striven for.  The disposition being unnoticed remains a prerequsite.  Observe Nordmeer Order No. 5.

13.48 Carrier and destroyer attack 07.50 hours on Ley in AB 6680 apparently from aft screen.  Boats do not operate on a northerly course, first and foremost strive to get ahead.  Evening own reconnaissance intended, the result of which must be evaluated for the approach for night attack or submerged attack in the morning.  Energetic exploitation of the darkness must get the boats there.

11.07 On 1 October at 00.00 hours the convoy is thought to be in about AB 8310, then expect course change to 230°.  2)  Following boats pass position line from AB 8169 to 8524 on 1 October at 05.00 hours, order"  Falke, Zoller, Wedemeyer, Bücher, Nees, if no other indications of the convoy.  Remainder of group Zorn close accordingly for the night or subsequent daytime attack.  3)  Boats, that cannot reach the convoy by 70°N, operate against stragglers.  4)  Unnoticed boats get ahead quicker, than those who stay up for anti-aircraft defense.
