Note:  The positions in the table above and in the Google Earth patrol summary are derived from the KTB and in many cases do not match those set forth in authoritative references such as Jürgen Rohwer, Axis Submarine Successes of World War Two or the Uboat.net website.  The goal here is to present the picture relative to the U-boat and not the absolute position that the ship was attacked or sank.

    12.00 LG 7799 Day's run:  Surfaced 56 nm
15.15   Undan Island in sight in 326°T.
15.25   A Japanese convoy consisting of 3 small steamers (500-1000 tons) in sight ahead on the same course.  On getting closer the convoy turns to starboard and heads for the coast.
16.35   Passed a small Japanese U-boat hunter to starboard on the opposite course.
    19.30   "Rochado" abeam.  Course 310°.

    29.09.44 Malaka Strait
01.00   Boat steered by the instructions of the Kmdt to the southeast entrance of the Klang Strait.
01.30   Passed about 30 Japanese Army landing craft to port.  The appearance of the U-boat initially aroused great excitement.  The landing craft make their machine guns ready and passed with obvious great distrust!
03.00   Passed the north entrance of the Klang Strait.  The boat steered at transit speed 14 knots up to the Dinding Strait within the 10-meter line.  There the fish groynes consistently placed in 6 meters of water.  These were passed at a distance of 200-300 meters.  As a result, there is only the possibility of a submarine attack from port. Since the 20-meter line runs to sea at a distance between 2-4 nm and a submerged U-boat is not to be expected within this line, this coastal route is fairly safe against U-boat attacks.  According to the Japanese, there is no acute danger of mines.
"Bulkheads closed condition" was established and the free watch was ordered on the over deck.
    03.10   Intake by air escort.
    03.15   Pulau Angsa abeam.
    06.15   Pulau Pangkor in sight.
    08.30   "White Rock Island" abeam.
09.28   Passed the Dinding Strait south entrance.

09.55   Air escort ended.  This "Arado" under Ltn. Muritz landed in the water and made fast astern.  After giving a report on the "Objective Point" for Penang the aircraft took off again and flew off in the direction of Penang.

01.34 WNW 3, Sea 2-3, short Swell, overcast, dew, 1015 mb, Vis. bad. Weighed anchor.  Boat steered through the Dinding Strait according to the directions of the Kmdt.  I decided to use this very difficult navigationally exit, to continue to run in shallow water.
02.05   Taken under aircraft escort. Bulkheads closed condition was established and the free watch was ordered on the over deck.
02.20   Passed the north entrance of the Dinding Strait.  From there proceeded at transit speed 14 knots within the 10-meter line along the fish groynes up to the south entrance to Penang.
02.40   A Japanese coastal watch boat took over U-boat escort on the port side.  Signal communications by international flag signals worked well.
06.16   The escort boat sheered off to port and went to high speed.  Initially I turned with and then ran on alone.
07.11   Pulau Kendi in sight in 347°T
07.35   The objective buoy for the south entrance to Penang. is abeam.  Steered according to the instructions of the Kmdt. along the buoy line to Penang.
09.10   Boat made fast at the Swettenham Pier.  Reported to U-boat Base Commander in Penang Korv.Kapt. Dommes.

17.10.44 Penang Kommandant for the transfer cruise:
        Korv.Kapt. Dommes.
Because Oblt.z.See Pahls was not capable of commanding "UIT-24" due to Dengue fever, I decided to command the boat to Singapore myself, so as to not have the boat remain unnecessarily in Penang.  Further, I want to get an impression for myself of the usability of the north passage from port that Oblt.z.See Pahls wanted to use and was thought favorable by the Japanese.
02.04 Penang Boat cast off to transfer cruise to Singapore.  Steered according to the instructions of the Kommandant along the buoy line up to Buoy 6 (northern entrance).
04.08 Malaka Strait Boat dived to proceed submerged.
    12.00 LF 6458 [6481] Day's run:     Surfaced         22 nm
                            Submerged     17 nm

    12.20   Evening twilight.
    12.30 S 1, Sea 0, 8/10, 1014 mb Surfaced, continued transfer cruise.
    18.25   "Jarak" abeam.
23.10               [LF 9514] An enemy U-boat in sight in 157°T.  Range = 3000-4000 meters, broad target angle.  Turned away and took the boat astern.
    23.15   Crash dive.
Due to uncertainty of the navigation (the Pasir Pandam Island was still not in sight) an avoidance maneuver to the west did not seem prudent and the use of the "One Fathom Bank" passage was not possible due to the mine danger accepted there by the Japanese, as well as the danger of passing there unreported and being picked up by the Japanese U-boat hunters.  I decide to dive to run further on the old course.  My intention was to proceed to the 20-meter line submerged and then run on the surface from there.  It turned out that the battery was too discharged  due to yesterday's submerged transit.  Charging of the battery at high speed 13.5 knots, which was absolutely necessary to bridge the night route is not possible on UIT-24.  Therefore I must decide to surface already at 01.00 and head for shallow water strongly zigzagging.
