    14.20   Released towing connection.  Ice protector given to the tug.  
    14.50   Dived next to the tug over the diesel exhaust gas valves because vents 1 and 3 were iced.

    18.10 AN 6732 Surfaced, transit to English Warning Area on course 270°, 10 knots.  
      Changing cloudiness, moonshine, Vis. very good  
      Fishermen bearing 210°T and 60°T with bright lights.

    20.30 AN 6721 Fisherman bearing 250°T on northerly course.  
        One steamer bearing 300°T on southerly course.  
        Matched speed:  Course 160°, 9 knots.  Steamer carries irregular illumination.  Flag is not distinguished, painting on the side of the hull is not seen despite distance 500 meters.  
    22.23 AN 6751 1st shot.  Distance 500 meters.  Miss ahead.  
        Initiated new attack.  
    22.40 AN 6751 rkm 2nd Shot.  Distance 600 meters.  Miss.  
    23.10 AN 6755 Vessel running on opposite course in sight bearing 140°T.  
        Initiated attack on the first steamer.  
    23.53 AN 6758 Ran in to shoot when the moon was covered by a large cloud.  Vessel proceeding in the opposite direction 6000 meters abeam.  3rd shot.  Distance 900 meters.  Hit center.  Steamer about 4000 tons, 110 meters long, 5 cargo hatches, deeply loaded, sank in 20 seconds.

        Steamer 8000-10000 tons, length 140 meters, blunt very wide stern, width 20-25 meters.  
        Foreship settles, steamer sank in 15 minutes.  
        Radio Traffic was not observed.  Afterwards ran off into the dark horizon to the NE and began return transit via Route 2.
